Welcome to my website! I am running for a seat on the Board of Education because I would like to reverse the trend of "one-size-fits-all" education in Howard County. Our students are individuals with passions and talents, so we need to offer programs and personalized instruction to keep students interested in what they are learning and allow students to learn at their own pace. A standardized test cannot measure each individual student's strengths and talents, and we need to stop using them as the only measure of student success.
Below is a partial list of issues where I believe the Board of Education must act to improve the way our schools function and the way they serve our students. Please click on the Issues link to the left to read more about these and other issues I plan to address as a Board member.
- Differentiate instruction through use of classroom technology
- Equalize access to educational opportunities for poor and minority students
- Individualize services and provide instructional options for special education students and gifted and advanced students
- Address overcrowding in our schools
- Create a feeder school system to keep communities together
- Prioritize maintenance of school buildings and acquisition of land for new schools
- Amend our school calendar to minimize half-days and eliminate constant interruptions to instruction
